Hike-A-Thon Information

Hike-A-Thon 2017

Now in its 14th year, the Hike-A-Thon is a month-long fundraiser to support the work of Washington Trails Association.  WTA's mission is to "preserve, enhance, and promote hiking opportunities in Washington through collaboration, education, advocacy, and trail maintenance."  In 2016, WTA maintained and improved 240 trails across the state, advocated for recreational funding at the state capitol, and served as the #1 source of information for hikers in Washington.  To read more about WTA's accomplishments, visit their website.

2017 will mark my eleventh year participating in the Hike-A-Thon.  During my first Hike-A-Thon in 2006, I hiked just 20 miles and raised about $100.  From those humble beginnings, I have consistently accomplished my goal of hiking more miles and raising more money for WTA.

How to Donate:

  • The easiest way to make a donation is simply to visit my fundraising website to donate by credit card.
  • Make a per-mile pledge.  If you choose this option, send me an email or leave a comment on the blog.  I will let you know at the end of the month how many miles I racked up, and then you can either make the donation online or write a check.

Donations can be made any time during the month of August, and all donations are tax-deductible.  You can also be sure your donation will be put to good use; WTA was rated a "Four Star Charity" by Charity Navigator.  Plus, there are a few additional perks for donating.

  • Every donation includes a photograph of one of the spectacular places where I'll be hiking.
  • Every donation of $50 or more includes a one-year membership to WTA.  As a member, you'll receive 6 bi-monthly issues of Washington Trails magazine (Check out some of the articles I've written as North Cascades Regional Correspondent for the magazine!) along with some other benefits.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated!  If you are not able to donate at this time, please feel free to share my blog on your social media sites or send an email to anyone you know who might be interested in donating!  Thank you for your support!
